Strathclyde Sports Union honour sporting heroes at annual event

Written by John Norrington.

University of Strathclyde sporting heroes, past and present were celebrated on Saturday (16th) at the PwC Sports Awards Ball in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow. The annual event is run by the University of Strathclyde Sports Union with over 500 attendees including representatives from national sporting bodies and university sports associations around the country.

The awards ball highlights the sporting successes made by students over the last year as well as notable alumni through the Sports Union’s ‘Hall of Fame’. Those inducted to the Strathclyde Sporting Hall of Fame will have made a profound impact on sport since leaving the University.

This year to commemorate the closure of Strathclyde’s Jordanhill Campus, it was decided that the 2013 Hall of Fame inductees would be Jordanhill alumni. Previously known as Jordanhill College, it merged with the University in 1993 to become Strathclyde University’s Faculty of Education. The campus has a tremendous history of alumni who have represented their country at an elite level and this year the University is honoured to induct three highly successful sportsmen: Craig Brown, Ian McLauchlan and David McCrae.

Photo Competition Results

Written by IT Officer.

After much deliberation by the communications committee and sports executive, the winners of the photo competition have finally been decided!

There were lots of very good entries made, and it was a tough decision, but these are the photos which we felt looked both impressive and featuring Strathclyde students participating in just some of our many thriving club sports.

It is Rock Up Sports Club - quite simply the best way to enjoy sports without any committment to join (yes it is totally FREE), without somebody shouting at you to do better (like PE used to be) and always something different to try (Kabbadi, touch rugby, badminton)...
