Join the Sports Union Print

The Sports Union are currently planning for 2010-11, but will be open throughout the summer - 9:30 - 4pm, Mon-Fri.

There are a number of clubs still participating throughout the summer.  To participate in any club, sport or events within the University of Strathclyde Sports Union, all students must register to become an affiliated member.

Becoming a member is easy and straightforward.  Please see below for more information on and the BENEFITS of becoming a member, and HOW TO JOIN the Sports Union and HOW TO JOIN one of our 45 clubs . . . . .

We look forward to seeing you over the summer, or in September ready for another year of sport!

Why should I join?

  • Access to 45 clubs - a single membership lets you attend all club activities.
  • Access to funding support - coaching development, health & safety and club equipment (where available).
  • Opportunity to represent your university at Scottish, British and World Level.
  • Financial support for top athletes - whether or not there is a club for your sport.
  • Financial support for members to participate in both recreational and competitive activity - through entry fees, transport and affiliations to NGBs.
  • Excellent booking times for SU registered clubs to utilise within the University sports facilities.
  • Representation - If you have a sporting related problem, the Sports President and Sports Executive Committee can lobby the relevant organisation on you behalf.
  • Access to resources, information and support in developing clubs, coaches and volunteer development.
  • Opportunities to volunteer to develop your CV and involvement in sport.

Costs for 2010-11

  • Undergraduate / Postgraduate: TBC
  • Graduate / Staff: TBC
  • Erasmus / Exchange Students Only: TBC

Please Note

  • You MUST become a Sports Union registered member before you join any club(s).
  • Unless you are a member of the Centre for Sport and Recreation, club members will also have to pay a fee to use the indoor sports facilities such as the swimming pool, gym and sports hall.  Go to the CSR website for further information and how to join.
  • The SU subsidises clubs activities, however on occassion members may have to contribute towards the costs of taking part. For instance (for safety reasons) Muay Thai / Kickboxing must have a coach present and so members must contribute towards this, and to play football at Stepps, if you take the bus it will cost you about £1.50. Clubs should tell you in advance if there are specific costs for a given session, so make sure you find out all the information before signing up!
